Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton
This site aims to promote women’s rights and is created on the 100th anniversary of initial votes for women in the United Kingdom.
The Representation of the People Act, passed on 6 February 1918, gave women over 30 and “of property” the vote.
This by no means equated to equal rights for women, as men of 21 were then also allowed to vote, and considering most people rented at that time just like today’s ‘generation rent’, most women were not eligible to vote.
Some 50 years later, Ford Workers at Dagenham went on strike for equal pay
Even then, the struggle was by no means over, and it was not until 1975 that the Sex Discrimination Act came into being
Even today, many regimes around the world are still treating women as second or even third-class citizens.
